It started at a Denny's in San Jose at 2:00 AM. Our Chief Technology Officer was sketching on a grease-stained paper napkin, wondering aloud: “What if the foliage wasn't leaves? What if the foliage was an overgrown web of fiber-optic cabling and glowing PCB traces?”

The primary hurdle in creating the Cyber-Duck was achieving that ultra-flat, light-absorbing matte black finish without making the surface feel chalky or rough. Standard rubber ducks are shiny because smooth vinyl releases easily from aluminum molds. To get the Cyber-Duck's stealth-bomber texture, we had to microscopic-bead-blast the interior of every mold with pulverized garnet crystals.

The glowing blue circuits running along its flanks are not painted on, they are dual-injected translucent blue TPU that channels internal light from a micro-battery housed within the tail. When submerged, the water completes a low-voltage circuit, causing the eyes and body lines to pulse slowly at a rate that matches a relaxed human heart rate (60 BPM). It remains our most requested, highest-selling individual design to date.
