The Full Story
The Farmer is, somewhat unexpectedly for a company headquartered in a major city, one of our most enduringly popular designs in rural markets, a fact that came as a genuine surprise to a marketing team that originally pitched it mostly as a "wholesome, broadly appealing" option to round out the early catalog rather than anything targeted specifically.
The overalls print went through several rounds of denim-wash-shade testing, an oddly serious process that involved literally hanging fabric swatches next to real denim jeans under different lighting conditions to make sure the printed pattern read as authentically "worn" rather than flat and cartoonish. The little pocket detail on the front, non-functional as it is, was nearly cut twice for cost reasons and saved both times by the same designer, who has, we're told, a personal and slightly disproportionate attachment to pocket details across the entire product line.
The straw hat texture was modeled from an actual hat borrowed from a farmers market vendor near the original warehouse, who lent it out for a weekend of reference photography in exchange for, we understand, a standing supply of free ducks for his stall ever since, an arrangement that, as far as we know, is still quietly honored today.

Denim print looks great, really does read as proper worn-in denim rather than a flat cartoon pattern. Nice weight to the piece too.

Looks more convincingly 'straw' in the listing photos than it does in hand, up close it's clearly smooth vinyl. Still fine, just slightly overpromised in the imagery.
I run a small hobby farm and bought this as a joke for my kitchen windowsill. The overalls print is more accurate than I expected honestly, whoever researched denim wash patterns for a rubber duck deserves to know their work was appreciated by someone who owns actual overalls.
Was expecting a little raised pocket detail based on the product photo angle, it's actually flat, just printed. Minor letdown, not a big deal.
