The Full Story
The Punk Rocker was almost never approved for production, largely on the strength of one extremely cautious note from an early legal review flagging the sculpted safety pin detail near the bill as a "potential concern," despite the fact that it was, from the very first prototype, fully sealed, non-functional, and about as sharp as a marshmallow. Three separate safety reviews and one slightly excessive round of drop testing later, it shipped anyway, pin intact.
The distressed leather jacket print took the longest of any texture in the collection to get approved internally, with the design team submitting no fewer than nine versions before landing on a level of "wear" that read as intentional rather than, in the words of one reviewer, "like the duck lost a fight." The studs and hardware detailing were based on an actual jacket owned by a member of the design team, worn to the office specifically for reference photography on a day that, by all accounts, several coworkers found extremely funny given how buttoned-up the rest of the office dress code was at the time.
This remains one of the few designs to have prompted actual fan mail, including, memorably, a handwritten letter from a customer who runs an actual punk venue asking if we'd consider a bulk order for merch table decoration. We did. They're apparently still there.

Somehow this rubber duck has more personality than most people I know. The jacket print is really well done, looks properly worn in rather than fake.

Genuinely thought this was going to be an actual sharp pin before I read the description properly. It's not, it's totally sealed and safe, just wanted to warn other parents to double check before assuming the worst like I did. Lowering my rating slightly just because the product photo could be clearer about this.
I had a jacket almost exactly like this in the early 2000s. Seeing it recreated on a rubber duck of all things hit me with a wave of nostalgia I was not prepared for at 9am on a Tuesday. Thank you and also how dare you.
The jacket detail is nice but it's a lot of visual information packed onto a small object, some of the finer lines are hard to make out without holding it close. Not a dealbreaker, just an observation.
